FOVA’s Mission Statement
We, the parents of the children participating in the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Conservatory of Fine Arts, are committed to supporting the program through varied parent involvement activities in an effort to maximize the resources and quality of the program and to improve student’s attendance and cooperation, in order to produce skilled and committed new artists.
A Bit of History …
Friends of Visual Arts (FOVA) was founded in 1991 by parents of children attending the Visual Arts Conservatory who wanted to help with hall monitoring, teacher assisting and matting art work in preparation for Open House. In 1992, parents took the group in a new direction when the State of California cut back on funding for the program. Parents rallied together in support by raising over $1,000 in cash donations desperately needed for art supplies. In 1994, the parent group was formally named: Friends of Visual Arts. In later years, a variety of fundraising efforts evolved, including the sale of FOVA aprons, T-shirts, sweatshirts and snacks. Since then, cash donations, corporate funding, teacher’s art auctions and Raffle Mania! assist FOVA in consistently reaching its fundraising goals. The rest, they say, is history…
